Donation to 2024 January Noto Peninsula Earthquake Emergency Support

A major earthquake of magnitude 7 occurred in Ishikawa Prefecture at around 16:10 on January 1, 2024.
In response to this, an emergency support team of Flying Search and Medical Team “ARROWS” was dispatched to the area.
The emergency support team consists of doctors, nurses, rescue workers, and a disaster relief dog team, and will investigate the disaster situation and support needs, as well as provide search and rescue support, medical support, and emergency supplies support.

We ask for your kind support in our emergency, recovery, and reconstruction support activities to help people in the disaster-stricken areas return to their normal lives as quickly as possible.

No matter what catastrophe we face, We will never give up on saving lives.

On the first day of 2024, while people were praying and wishing for a happy new year, a major earthquake of magnitude 7 occurred in Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture. Immediately following the earthquake, ARROWS, Peace Winds’ airborne search-and-rescue team, dispatched an emergency support team of doctors, nurses, search-and-rescue crews and rescue dogs to the disaster area. In the earthquake-affected areas, where houses and roads were severely damaged, ARROWS flexibly utilized helicopters and its ship to carry out support activities by land, air and sea. ●Medical care (Major support activities in Noto Peninsula)

The system of doctors and nurses as regular staff enables Peace Winds to provide immediate medical support to the disaster area. ARROWS helicopters played a central role in airlifting patients, and doctors and nurses have been providing health checks to survivors living in evacuation centers. Patients can also see ARROWS doctors for health checks at mobile clinics.

●Supplies (Major support activities in Noto Peninsula)

While the damage to roads has made supplies delivery difficult, Peace Winds’ helicopters and its ship, the “Toyoshima Maru,” have been an invaluable asset for delivering supplies. In cooperation with companies, Peace Winds provides food, hygiene products, heating oil and other necessary supplies to people living in evacuation centers and those who have taken refuge in their homes and cars.

●Evacuation center(Major support activities in Noto Peninsula)

At the request of the local government, Peace Winds has been aiding in the operation of evacuation centers. This includes registering evacuees, setting up tents, delivering and stocking supplies, and planning the layout of the centers according to each resident’s needs.

Peace Winds has been distributing clean water by partnering with two businesses that provided water purification units that could be used in the affected areas. This includes about 6,000 liters of drinking water per day for 50-60 evacuees and a maximum of 1,600 person-cents of domestic water per day.

●Pet(Major support activities in Noto Peninsula)

Peace Wonko, the stray dog rescue and adoption project operated by Peace Winds sent staff to the disaster area and worked with local governments and other groups to provide pet food, cages and toiletries for families with pets. They also offer boarding and temporary foster care and have opened an evacuation center allowing pets at the Iida Civic Hall in Suzu City.

What are the activities of the
Flying Search and Medical Team in disaster-stricken areas?

We, the Flying Search and Medical Team, are a team of medical-centered disaster emergency support projects that quickly rush to areas affected by large-scale disasters and carry out rescue and lifesaving activities. Right after our arrival at the affected areas, we collaborate with local governments, hospitals, NPOs, companies, as well as the Self-Defense Forces and fire departments, to optimally provide necessary support, from immediate rescue and life-saving activities to distribution of supplies, evacuation center management, and medium- to long-term recovery support.

In the disaster-stricken areas, we utilize our experience and strengths of Mobility, Expertise, and Logistics Capabilities in order to carry out activities while valuing our feelings of compassion for disaster-stricken people.

What are the activities of the Flying Search and Medical Team
in disaster-stricken areas?

Peace Winds Japan, a specified non-profit organization that operates the Flying Search and Medical Team, is an NGO that supports people exposed to humanitarian crises and livelihood crises caused by natural disasters, conflicts, poverty, and other human-caused factors both domestically and internationally. So far, we have been active in 34 countries and regions around the world. After the launch of the Flying Search and Medical Team “ARROWS,” we have been active and always quickly responding to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and typhoons that have occurred frequently in recent years, responding also to the new coronavirus infection, by providing large-scale support centered on medical care.

What makes such activities possible is our “Mobility.” Utilizing transportation methods such as airplanes, helicopters, and ships, we respond to all kinds of needs which come out after a disaster, including dispatching doctors, nurses, rescue dog teams, and rescue personnel. We aim to provide quick and effective support that is only possible through the private sector.
